…a BIG one. I’m normally not a fan of secrets–when I have news, I want to shout it from the rooftops! But in this case, I needed to keep (almost) everyone in the dark for a little while as I tidied things up behind the scenes. It’s part of the reason why I’ve been so quiet here, and why I’ve been MIA from social media lately. I HAVE REASONS. I PROMISE. This hair is FULL OF SECRETS. You have no idea.
BUT BEFORE I get to secrets, I want to remind everyone of my goals for 2014, which I shared with you almost exactly a year ago:
I’m going to take chances
I’m going to step outside of my comfort zone.
I’m going to be brave.
2014, for me, was all about taking chances. I started querying A Magic Dark & Bright. I entered contests. I dove head-first into the biggest, most complicated book I’ve ever attempted to write and realized that some books are slow burners. And that’s okay. I started something brand-new for NaNoWriMo in a genre and category I’ve never written before (New Adult! Suspense!). I started building my freelance business.
And I decided to publish A Magic Dark & Bright myself.
Yep, you read that right. I’m self-publishing A Magic Dark and Bright, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
It was a huge thing to decide, and something that wasn’t taken lightly, believe me. It was terrifying–like standing on a ledge, not knowing whether or not the drop is big enough to kill you. But I remembered my promise to myself–I was going to be brave.
So I closed my eyes and I made the leap.
I absolutely believe that going indie with AMD&B is the right choice for this book, in this moment.
I’m going to be talking more over the next days and weeks and months about how I came to this decision, and my journey to publication, and the wonderful team of people who are helping me get there. I have SO much planned, including sneak peeks and giveaways, so please stay tuned.
As for right now, I’m trying not to die from excitement because my weird little story about a girl, a boy, and a ghost in a weird little town is going to be a BOOK! And then I’m going to get back to work, because:
A Magic Dark & Bright, Book One of The Asylum Series, debuts on April 28, 2015! (oh my gosh pinch me, please.) It even has a page on Goodreads!
